| Hi Again - once again, I am new here - posted a couple of days ago about new burning pain in my left upper leg I had acquired 4 mos after my SCS implant. I saw my anesthesiologist (pain doctor) yesterday and after he looked over my records and I told him what was going on he came over beside me, felt my hip (about went through the roof!) and immediately asked me if I had ever heard of "Meralgia Paresthetica". I was like, "Huh???" He jumped up, left the room and came back with a printout on it and handed it to me and asked me to read it and asked it that sounded like what was going on and right away I told him "YES!!" It is caused when the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve is compressed by a ligament that goes across the hip into the groin area and is usually caused by tight clothing, weight gain or BEING over weight, injury or certain types of physical activity (none of which apply!). Since I woke up with it about a month ago, it must have been the way I slept. I asked the doctor what we could do about it and he said a steroid injection was the best treatment and I asked him if we could do it then. He hesitated (he was incredibly busy yesterday!) but then said, "Well, it's an emergency, isn't it?" And I emphatically said, "YES!!!" So he did a steroid injection right into (or around?) that nerve (PAINFUL!!!) and then as an afterthought he gave me an injection of Torodol and then increased my dosage of Avinza (temporarily) from 60 MG to 90 MG. He said that it would take a couple of days for the steroid to take full effect. No great improvement yet but I am very positive that I am on the road to recovery! =)
Also, so happy to know it has nothing to do with the SCS!!! I have LOVED my SCS and have had such great success with it. I would have been heartbroken had it been anything at all related to the surgery or the implant. On that note, I also met with my SCS rep yesterday and he did some reprogramming to try to get the stimulation more in my upper thigh. I think we got some fairly good coverage there as well!
Sending HOPE your way...GeorgiaGal =) |
